A Special Writer Place
Today's world is fast paced and can be a hectic time to write. Kids, television, cars, and many other things can distract us from the written word. If you know yourself, you'll realize that there are certain times and places that you can concentrate better and get the writing done.
Writing late at night is the most productive time for me. My local coffee shop, Brace Books and More, is the most productive place for me to write. The river is also a good place for me. Just me, my laptop, and Mother Nature is a peaceful setting to get the job done. I can write well at home only if the television is off. The phone likes to ring or company comes over. I have many distractions at home, but few bother me when I'm at my favorite peaceful places. I can more easily get myself in the writer mindset when I'm at the right place at the right time.
Atmosphere plays a large role in the development of a story. Productivity is nil when I'm in the wrong environment. There are ways to increase the odds when I'm not at the most desirable place to write. I use Loreena McKennitt or perhaps Nora Jones to put me in a peaceful state of mind. The phone is unplugged and the television is turned off. I think writer. I think professor. The music stops and I begin writing quick and effortlessly, speeding along and getting it done.
I was once advised to rent an office for my writing. An office is a cold place to me. If the setting is good, the furniture is perhaps antique and nice, and a cozy fireplace at the office, that might be a different story. An office is like a place where businessmen go to fumble thru paperwork and get stressed over deadlines. Whatever your favorite places that are peaceful, that's the place you will probably write your best stuff. It's also neat to use wireless Internet in the middle of nowhere to send your work to an editor or publisher via email.
The mind that has fun and peace at the same time is a well-trained mind.
I had company for a few days and didn't get much writing done. Concentration went out the window. There was too much distraction. The minute my friend left, I was able to accomplish so much, that I felt completely inspired. The thought of not getting much done made me ready for work. I'm not saying invite a guest over, but be ready and willing to work when it's time, having the correct frame of mind. Your thoughts are directly related to how much you get done.
A lady acquaintance I met told me once that we go thru stages in our life. She was so sincere that I remembered it. She must have read Ecclesiastes. There's a time for everything. Is this your time to write?
